so, who am I?
Hi there, I’m Yen Nguyen, a Chicago based collectives. My specialties are graphic design, photography, and illustrations.
What is my history?
I was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to Chicago when I was 14. I am currently attending at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design as an undergrad student for the Communication Design program. I will be graduating in 2020 and hopefully get admitted in The School of Art Institute in Chicago as a grad student. This website is mainly for organizing my design works while I am still in school :)
My main focus in work right now is branding, packaging design, and photography; I am hoping to get more into film/cinematography and illustration in the near future.
Why would I call myself a collectives?
I usually try to corporate different things into my works, such as photography, videography, and sometimes even paintings. I could not call myself a ‘creative’ since my workflow at the moment does not deserve that title. I am mainly collecting and learning at the moment to figure out my own style and aesthetic, so ‘collective’ seems a lot more fitting.
Another reason would be because of my current workflow and process of thinking. They are consistent bases of collecting knowledge to inspire the creative side in me to advance and develop the work I want/need to. My process can be broken down into 5 steps:
Defining who would be the audience/demographics.
Researching the needs and wants of said demographics.
Create concepts based on the research.
Develop ideas under one main targeted concept.
Actual design works (which is the fun part)
What is my goals?
Learn how to be more in touch with my creative side since I am a left-brainer.
Travel a bit more since you’ll get old pretty soon #yolo
Be a decent human being.
